My biggest problem with pecan pie is really more of a problem with the world. For most of my life I have wondered “Why is pecan pie only available around Thanksgiving?”. It’s so dumb to me that it’s considered seasonal. I love pecan pie all year long, not seasonally. Well, the world has been redeemed by Cedar Creek, Texas.
Today I learned that there is a small group of like-minded pecan pie lovers and they’re located off Hwy 71 in Texas. The Berdoll Pecan Candy and Gift Company is run by the Berdoll Family. These fine folks are baking pecan pies every day. And when the store closes down for the day, a vending machine serves up the pecan goodness to hungry customers all night long. In fact, the vending machine runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This marvelous machine gives change in 1$ coins.
Looming largely over this glorious pecan pie machine is Ms. Pearl, the Giant Squirrel. Ms. Pearl happens to be the largest squirrel statue in the world. So if you, for some odd reason, are interested in setting the world record for tallest fake squirrel, you have to beat 14 feet.
If I happen to be heading that way, I’m guaranteed to be having pecan pie for lunch and dinner that day. God bless you, Berdoll family. The world needs more people like you.
