I remixed the Xbox “Rare Achievement” sound effect into a song

Last week, Major Nelson released the “rare achievement sound effect” (the sound that triggers in an Xbox game when you unlock an achievement that 10% or less of players have unlocked). Upon hearing it, I noticed a layer of musicality. I chose to challenge myself to remix the rare achievement sound effect into a song using only the raw audio as a source. This meant no synths and no other samples.

Every instrument in my remix, called “A Rare Achievement”, is created using the rare achievement sound effect and a ton of effects. I used Ableton Live 9 and Native Instruments’ Kontakt sampler. I chopped the main achievement sound into little bits and found the parts that sounded the best to be drums (kick, snare, hats, crash, ride) and made a beat. Then I sampled a portion to be the “bass” instrument. From there I added different parts and tried to compose it like an electronic music track.

If you’d like to download it, you can do that here.

  1. Hey, are you having trouble logging into RouteNote.com? My singles have been in moderation queue for few days (24 to 72 hours) and I tried to log into their website yesterday but it was down. So far I have not got a response in Twitter and email today.

Is Routenote the only one that provides free service for those who are trying to reach out to as many people as I can and share my songs with them? I’m not expecting to make a lot of money as I’m not well-known.

These are my songs that are in moderation queue in RouteNote.com

I tried to check my distributor status, but when I tried to get into “Discography” from “Distribution,” but their server is very unresponsive.

    1. The website is very slow. It’s my one big gripe with their service. However, I have had my songs pending moderation for up to a week. It depends on how busy they are. Give it another couple of business days. If it doesn’t go up by then, you can contact support through twitter. Again, their responsiveness depends on how busy they are. If everyone is hitting them up to complain about moderation time, then it’s going to take them longer to get back to you. It’s best to just stay busy and let them wade through the mess. They have always come through. Good luck with your release!

      1. Thanks. I’m glad I’m not the only one.

I would like to go direct with Spotify and Last.fm, but couldn’t figure out how to get my music released.

Anyway, did you take some time to listen to my songs in SoundCloud?
